What others say about Gil Alba's "Art of Investigations"
The
"Art of Investigations" course turned out to be a very pleasant
surprise. I enrolled assuming I would be in a lecture for
5 Wednesday evenings hearing "war stories" from an ex-cop,
turned P.I. Gil Alba is indeed, a retired NYC police officer
with 28 years experience who embarked on a second career
as Private Invesitgator. This is where the similarity ends,
however. Gil gave us actual active cases to work on and
two significant benefits resulted. First, the students got
a flavor of how a "Private Eye" conducts an investigation
and second, Gil acquired "brainpower and personpower" to
share his ideas with. The class also came away with a compassionate
understanding of the plight of the victim's relatives who
are searching for closure.

I think the Art of Investigations class is a huge success !!!!!!!!!!!
I found each class more and more fascinating. This class is for
anyone who has an interest in learning the hard work and research
involved in investigating a case. I met very interesting people
and saw the dedication that it takes to pursue a case. I was amazed
at how eager to help everyone was from the victims family to very
high up police authorities to psychics to DNA experts.... Anyone
who likes excitement and a mystery should take this course ! Also
I must mention Gil our instructor who made all his years of knowledge
and dedication a huge part of our class, and without him this wouldn't
have been such a great success !

Wednesday night's class was nice. Nice?! It was
many things: Detective McLaughlin was great -- informative, colorful,
interesting. He was a whole education in himself. And since you
are also a student of human nature... what happened to the group
was pretty interesting. I guess because we knew we were breaking
up we got a little manicky. Kind of like we were eager for a last
unifying cling. And at eight o'clock no one wanted to leave and
end it. That is a testament to you, Gil. You really set the tone
for the class. In any case, here is my thank you for a wonderful
experience. For a first timer you did very well.Forget the first
timer, you really did a fine job with the class. I do know someone
who would be interested in taking your class (she is teaching forensic
science to high school students this year) so if you know when
you will be doing this again could you let me know? I couldn't
resist sending you this, it came to me as I driving somewhere.
Boy, was it hard to drive and jot this down at the same time!!
Thanks.

Det. MacLaughlin was an awesome guest for the final
class, very personable and down to earth and he made this case
seem very real. Also, NYPD is by far the ELITE of any police force
anywhere and the Scivetti family should take some consolation in
the fact that if anyone can bring the killer to justice they DEFINITELY
will. The package you gave us was very impressive! I'm happy I
took the course, you are a very good teacher, everyone in the class
was bright and articulate and I will miss having to do homework.
Take care and let me know if you have any investigating you need
done.

The Art of Investigations class exceeded my expectations
in several ways. Your teaching style is very inclusive, casual,
nurturing and innovative. You are a natural, and students of all
interests and backgrounds respond to you. Secondly, the fact that
we were able to work on a real case was far more interesting and
involving than textbook learning. The exercises employed that involved
the students from the get-go, such as the interview following the
staged abduction and the exercise of interviewing fellow students
were both enlightening and engaging.
The tact of providing us some information, but not
too much allowed us the freedom to explore methods of investigating
and navigating through various Internet sites and search engines.
For those of us whose initial reason for taking the class was to
learn how to research, investigate, and dig up facts and records,
it certainly satisfied that requirement. I also came upon some
very interesting sites.
The freedom you provided us with “give and take”
made us all feel comfortable and valued. The taped interviews with
Angel and Kathy were important to the development of suspense,
and the actual physical presence of Kathy Kupka made the experience
all the more real and human. The parapsychologist, and the Detective,
also provided insights and excitement for us all.
I would, however, in the future extend the classroom
time from five sessions to at least eight or ten.
Thank you Gil, for providing this great experience.
I hope that when I publish my first novel, that you will be mentioned
as one of my subject matter experts. Thanks again!

Thanks for letting us know when the MSNBC
Investigates show will
be aired. I also wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed
your class. You are very intuitive and very informative.
We never realized how much there was to an investigation.
I believe you will be the one to help these cases come to
a close. I wish you success in finding the victims of these
horrific crimes.

Thank you for the excellent course and for
the guidance in breaking down barriers. Thanks, also for
the opportunity research the Culberson case and make the
presentation. It was good for me to do that.
Your work and your team are making a very valuable contribution
on many levels. It was an honor to participate in a little
part of that.
